Frequently Asked Questions
BEFORE YOU BUY
We want you to feel confident in your order.
Buying beef direct from a farm is a little different than grabbing a package from the grocery store. Here are the questions we hear most often — if yours isn't answered here, give us a call or text and we'll sort it out.
-
As a general rule, plan for about 1 cubic foot of freezer space per 35–40 lbs of take-home beef. For a half beef (roughly 250–285 lbs take-home), you'll want approximately 7–8 cubic feet — a standard upright or chest freezer handles this comfortably. For a whole beef (500–575 lbs take-home), plan for 14–16 cubic feet. If you're unsure, give us a call and we can help you figure it out before you commit.
-
Our next available beef will be ready for pickup in November 2026. We process our cattle in the fall once they have reached their target weight and finish. Spots are limited — we encourage you to order early.
-
You place your order on this page and receive an invoice by email with e-transfer instructions. Send your 50% deposit to the address on your invoice with your reference number in the memo. Once Eric confirms receipt your spot is secured, and you'll receive a paid confirmation email. When your animal is ready, we'll send a cutting instructions sheet so your beef is processed exactly the way you'd like it. Final balance is due within 7 days of receiving your hanging weight confirmation.
-
The deposit reflects the real cost of reserving an animal on your behalf. When you place an order, that animal is removed from any other potential sale. The non-refundable half covers those costs if something changes on your end. The refundable half is there to protect you — if you need to cancel before the animal is processed, you get that portion back.
-
Our cattle are raised on a natural diet — grass and pasture in summer, hay through winter, and silage as part of their roughage diet. In the final stage before processing, they are finished on grain. That finishing period develops the flavour and marbling that makes a noticeable difference on your plate.
-
Our cattle are raised to a target live weight of around 1,500 lbs. Hanging weight typically comes in around 900 lbs for a whole steer. Once your butcher removes bone, fat trim, and processing waste, your take-home beef will be approximately 500–575 lbs for a whole, or 250–285 lbs for a half.
-
Yes — that's one of the advantages of buying direct. Once your order is placed, we'll send you a cutting instructions sheet. Steak thickness, roast sizes, ground beef ratio — your beef, cut the way you actually use it.
-
Your beef will be cut to your specifications by our local butcher and wrapped in butcher paper. You can expect steaks (ribeye, sirloin, round, and others), roasts, brisket, short ribs, stew meat, and ground beef. A whole beef also includes the tenderloin.

Preferred payment is by e-transfer. After placing your order, you'll receive an invoice email with our e-transfer address, the exact deposit amount, and a reference number for the memo. Once we confirm receipt, your spot is secured and you'll receive a paid confirmation email. We do also accept credit card/online payment but additional charges will apply.
